Webster’s Dictionary defines kindle as 1: to start (a fire) burning: light 2a: to stir up: arouse <kindle interest> b: to bring into being: start 3: to cause to glow: illuminate. The role of the artist is to illuminate and bring into being creations that opens the viewers mind to new perspectives, concepts, ideas and possibilities. The artist can best achieve this goal through creative freedom, and are at their best when not confined by constraints. In this spirit the show is intentionally left open-ended without a theme, agenda or constraint of any kind.

• Habib Ayat

Born in Tunisia, an abstract, figurative, and cityscape painter (often blurring the line between the three), Ayat’s work is both innovative and commanding, and is infused with vibrancy, texture, and rich color. All of which captures an essence of love and peace, sensuality and romance, and desire and beauty.

• Milton Fletcher

Bleach Burnout is part of an ongoing series that explores what happens when one’s ability to see is changed irrevocable by vision “impairment,” in this case, Retinitis Pigmentosa. I was diagnosed with “R. P.” on New Year’s Eve 2009. It occurs when a number of cones in back of the retina no longer work and the processing of light to the brain is distorted or destroyed. Bleach is a drag strip scenario that is in part an interpretative representation of how objects can appear in certain bright light situations. Bleach is also a companion piece to Burnout featured on CyberGallery66.org.

• Mike Frick

A Flagstaff, Arizona based artist, Mike began painting full time in 2000 after a 15-year career as an editorial art director and graphic designer for publications and his figurative oil paintings are in collections across the United States and Europe. He paints faces. Sometimes it’s someone well known–a celebrity, a criminal, a person of note. Sometimes it’s someone anonymous, but still familiar. He seeks to develop a connection between the viewer and the painting–a shared emotion, a common look, a stare into the abyss.

• Walter Markham

Received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1997), curated for the Markham/Murray Gallery, NYC and was Founding Curator for The September 11 Photo Project which is permanently housed in the New York Public Library. Mr. Markham is currently working with the local publisher, Spuyten Duyvil Inc. to compile, in book form, artist’s self-portraits in crayon due for publication 2010/2011.

• Travis Mong

Was born in York, Pennsylvania, and received his BFA at School of Visual Arts, NYC (1999). Imbued in his work is a personal philosophy equated with physics. That matter is neither created nor destroyed, only plains of existence change and mutate. It is this process of moving through space and transformation that allows life to evolve, grow and prosper. Moreover his creations exist to simultaneously influence the environment as well as the environment influences the work – becoming and extending out from the whole.

• Fabricio Suarez

Is a Uruguayan born landscape painter. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Fabricio uses imagery born of destruction and chaos, weaving scenes of fire, water, and earth to illustrate his unique perspective on the use of space and subject matter within the frames of his work. The destruction of monuments of humankind and the natural world are explored, with special attention paid to the symbolic nature of man’s relationship with himself and the earth he so readily destroys.
